However, the color can be overwhelming in small spaces and is therefore best suited as an accent tree. The fruit attracts a variety of birds, squirrels, and other mammals when the ripen in the spring. It is also edible for human consumption and maybe be used for jams and tarts. However, bitter seeds may contain traces of cyanide before ripened.
